ABBOTTABAD, June 7: Thirty-eight people, including 10 women, were killed and eight others injured when a truck carrying them fell into a deep ravine near Bagnother on Sunday night. The truck (LHM-9270) was coming to village Jandral in Mansehra from Murree where the victims had attended the annual Urs at the Mohra Sharif shrine.
When the truck reached Bagnother, its driver lost control over the steering wheel and the vehicle skidded off the road, falling into the ravine. Police and hospital sources said that 32 people were killed on the spot and six others succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
One of the injured was stated to be in critical condition in the Ayub Medical Complex. Sources said that a police team arrived at the scene of the accident and started rescue operation which continued till Monday.
JAMALI SHOCKED: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali expressed deep grief over the death of pilgrims in the accident, adds APP. In a condolence message, the prime minister said he was deeply shocked to learn about the loss of precious lives in the tragic accident.
He prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured. Mr Jamali directed the local administration to take all measures in aid of the affected families. He said the injured should be provided with full medical care.
