LAHORE, May 20: The City District Government food squad has booked 38 ice-cream factories for manufacturing their products under unhygienic conditions and sent samples for analysis.

The squad found that mixture was being prepared in dirty utensils and frozen in rusty cans in most of the factories. The rust on the ice cream was being removed before packing. Tap water and spurious skimmed and concentrated milk (khoya) were being used for preparing ice cream mixture.

The factories booked are situated on Sheikhupra Road, Shahdara, Wandala Road, Misri Shah, Chah Miran, Ghoray Shah, Dharampura, Tajpura, Ghaziabad, Al-Faisal Town, Swami Nagar, Lahore Township, Mochipura, Shah Kamal Road, Shalimar Road, Kotli Pir Abdul Rehman, Rashidpura, Surraya Jabeen Park, Bhogiwal Road, Salamatpura, Younaspura, Baghbanpura, Aziz Shaheed Road, Ichhra, Johar Town and Ghaus-i-Azam Colony, Gulberg.

Meanwhile, the CDG food squad and Allama Iqbal Town administration inspected 20 restaurants on Multan Road and booked the managements for cooking under unhygienic conditions and operating business without licences. The squad seized 29 samples of cooked food and raw materials for analysis.
