GUJRAT, May 20: A bandit was shot dead while five people, including four inmates, were injured late Sunday night during a dacoity in Mohallah Maki Masjid, Shadiwal Road.

Six Afghan dacoits barged into the house of Ibrahim and held up the inmates at gunpoint. They started scooping cash and other valuables when Shahzad alias Fauji stabbed one of the intruders with a knife. His two brothers and the father also tried to overpower the outlaws. The bandits became jittery and opened fire on the them, injuring four inmates and a dacoit. The bandits escaped from the scene with Rs23,000 in cash and 20 tolas of gold.

Later, the area people took the injured to the local DHQ Hospital where the dacoit died. The condition of the injured inmates Ibrahim, Shahzad alias Fauji, Shah Nawaz and Shahbaz was stated to be critical. The dead and the injured dacoits were identified as Habibullah and Mir Jan, respectively. Jan later identified his two absconding accomplices as Muhammad and Rehmat, Lorry Adda SI Tanveer said.

GUNNED DOWN: A man was gunned down while his cousin was injured by rivals on Sunday over a political rivalry in Chokorry Sher Ghazi.

Tariq Mochi along with three accomplices shot at and injured Mirza Islam and escaped. Afzal, the cousin of injured, was taking him to hospital in a car when outlaws appeared again near the railway crossing and shot dead Afzal.
