KARACHI, May 20: The summer vacations in the educational institutions of the province will be observed for two months as usual from June 1, it was learnt officially on Monday.
Sources in the government said the Sindh Education Department had decided in principle not to strict with its earlier announcement of curtailing the summer vacations by 15 days. In view of the representations received at the department, the authorities are of the view that delaying the vacations to June 15 was not in the interest of students, particularly in view of the current heat spell, added the sources.
A senior official in the Education Department said a formal announcement regarding the reversal to the old system of vacation would be made after a meeting of the department’s steering committee, scheduled to be held on May 24.
The steering committee some months back had decided to observe summer vacations from June 15 to July 31. Earlier, the government used to observe vacations in its educational institutions from June 1 to July 31.
However, the decision was resented by parents and students and they demanded for reviewing the government policy for the year. In addition to demands of not to curtail the vacations, there have been demands that the vacations should have commenced before June 1 since the prevailing weather condition was not conducive for the school-goers.
It is likely that the steering committee would take a decision not to disturb the in vogue summer and winter vacations in the years to come as well, added the source.
