KARACHI, May 5: Sindh government has constituted a district operational committee and town operational committees for removal of encroachment from the city. The town committees would carry out the anti-encroachment operation and the district committee would monitor their performance, a notification said.

The Karachi Nazim will be the convener of the district committee and the district coordination officer, the city police chief, the chief of the Karachi Building Control Authority, the Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority director-general and the executive district officer, revenue, will be its members.

The town Nazims will be conveners of their operational committees and the town police and municipal officers, the deputy district officers, revenue, the superintendents of police, traffic, and Sindh Kutchi Abadis Authority representatives will be their members.

According to the notification, the district operational committee will supervise and monitor the functioning of the Karachi Anti-Encroachment Force and provide necessary resources for the operations in this regard to the towns.

It will identify the elements involved in land grabbing and take legal action against them. It will meet once in a quarter. The town operational committees will identify encroachment-infested areas and clear those. The committees will release video recording of the clearance of encroachment and ensure that those don't return. -PPI
