KOHAT, May 19: A woman, Kausar Parveen, was killed and her husband and son, Arif and Mohsin, were seriously injured when three armed, masked men attempted a dacoity at the family’s Meeri Colony residence on the Indus Highway late on Friday night.

Area residents blocked the highway for more than one hour on Saturday morning in protest against the attitude of the Liaquat Hospital staff. Apparently doctors were absent while life-saving drugs were not available in the emergency unit when the injured were brought there. The condition of the injured is reported as stable.

The protesters opened the road after ASP Nisar Khan Tanoli assured them that the dacoits would be arrested within 24 hours and action would be taken against the hospital administration.

SMUGGLERS HELD: The Jangle Khel police busted a gang of inter-provincial drug smugglers and arrested at the Gulshanabad check post three carriers, who were carrying a consignment from Darra Adam Khel to down country.

Acting on a tip-off, the police tightened checking at the Gulshanabad check post at the border between Kohat and Darra Adam Khel. During a body search of three suspicious persons, the police recovered two kilogrammes of heroin, one kilogramme of opium and one-and-a-half kilogrammes of charas from them. They were identified as Akhtar, resident of Faisalabad and Zewar Shah and Ahmed Gul.
