PESHAWAR, May 19: The NWFP Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, has said there should be no deficiency in the facilities being offered to the patients under the institution-based private practice programme, specially in the tertiary-care hospitals.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House here on Sunday to discuss the progress on implementation of the IBP, the governor expressed satisfaction on the overall performance and initial successes of the programme.

He said it was a job which demanded concentration and stressed that the chief executives of the hospitals should focus on the availability of better clinical and other facilities to the patients within the premises of their respective hospitals.

The meeting while discussing the ways and means for effective and efficient utilization of the resources, also noted that the hospitals enjoyed maximum autonomy and had sufficient funds at their disposal as well.

“The introduction of the IBP is a big and unique cultural change and no efforts should be spared to make it a real success,” commented the governor.

The meeting stressed that the tertiary-care hospitals must develop their own websites and advertise every vacancy, specially that of doctors.

The meeting also reviewed various proposals to ensure better working atmosphere within the hospitals and decided not only to take measure to ensure optimum utilization of the satellite hospitals situated in the catchments areas of the big hospitals, but also to separate the OPD from them.

The meeting was informed that a monitoring committee has been constituted to overview the performance of the IBP.

Provincial Minister for Health Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, Adviser to Governor on Health Dr Robina Gilani, Chief Secretary Shakil Durrani, Secretary Health Asif Khan, Secretary Finance Wajid Rana and the chief executives of all the major teaching hospitals attended the meeting.—APP
