KARACHI, March 19: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the administration to strictly implement security measures in the province.
Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor House on Friday, he stressed that there should be no leniency about the implementation of the security measures.
The meeting reviewed the law and order situation in the province. The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Shaikh; the Sindh chief secretary, Dr Mutawwakil Kazi; the director-general of the Rangers, Maj-Gen Javed Zia; and the inspector-general of the Sindh police, Syed Kamal Shah; attended the meeting.
The governor was informed about the attack on a Rangers vehicle on Friday. He was told that evidence and leads about the terrorists had been found. The governor said that no effort should be spared to bring the terrorists to book.
He said that because of the sustained efforts of the government law and order had improved in the province. The meeting was informed that it had been decided that a Rs1 million reward would be given to those who identified the terrorists involved in attack and helped the government to arrest them.
It was decided that there would be strict checking of the vehicles bearing government number plates, tinted glasses and blue lights. The sketches of an accused involved in the attack on the Rangers vehicle was also issued.
ATTACKED CONDEMNED: Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a vehicle carrying Rangers personnel near Baloch Colony on Sharea Faisal on Friday where one of the jawans was killed and several others were wounded.
The CM expressed sympathy with bereaved family of the martyred jawan and condoled his death. He said such cowardly terrorist acts would be dealt with an iron hand. Any conspiracy hatched to sabotage peace and tranquillity in the province would be foiled, he vowed.
He praised Rangers officers and jawans performing their duties to protect life and property of people, maintaining law and order, and eliminating activities of criminals and terrorists in the province.
He hoped that the Rangers, police and other law-enforcement agencies would continue to discharge their responsibilities with dedication. The CM announced a compensation of Rs200,000 to be paid to the heirs of the martyred jawan, and said that the provincial government would bear the treatment expenses of those injured in the attack. -APP/PPI
