QUETTA, Feb 24: Mushtarika Ittihad Transporters and Quetta- Makran Union representatives have warned that if the government did not meet their demands then they would resist the shifting of bus stand to the site at Hazarganji.

Speaking at press conference here on Tuesday, Haji Juma Khan president of MIT, alleged that the Quetta Development Authority officials have committed irregularities in allotment of plots at the new bus stand.

He stated that the government, on the demand of the Balochistan Assembly members has constituted an investigation committee headed by the provincial minister for local bodies, to probe the illegal allotments, but now the chief minister has announced that the bus stand would be shifted by March 15.

He declared that the chief minister should have waited till the submission of the report of the investigation committee. He accused the QDA officials of ignoring the real transporters in the allotment of plots in Hazarganji wherein a small group of transporters have been favoured at the cost of the majority.

DEATH SENTENCE: Sessions Judge Abdul Qadir Mengal on Tuesday awarded capital punishment to a man for murder. The court announced its verdict after the prosecution proved that Abdul Salam killed Gul Muhammad on April 4, 2002, on the circular road Quetta.

NEWSMAN'S PLEA: Anti-Terrorism Court II of the city will hear the submissions of journalist Khawar Mehdi Rizvi on March 5.

The police crimes branch has registered a treason case against him, accusing him of making a fake video film on Al Qaeda activities in collaboration with two French newsmen.

Mr Rizvi submitted two identical applications to the court here on Tuesday, asking the court to order withdrawal of the treason case filed against him as he was innocent.

The prosecution has submitted charge sheet against Mr Rizvi, Obaidullah Shakir and Allah Noor for working with foreign journalists against the state. The French journalists had also been arrested, but later were released on the orders of the Sindh High Court.

NOTICES: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has issued pre-admission notices to the provincial government and director mineralogy department Balochistan in a petition filed by the Pakistan Steel to restore the lease of land cancelled by the department concerned.

The bench, comprising Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, had directed the other day to issue the pre-admission notices to the parties concerned.

The Pakistan Steel had submitted that the government had allotted two lease of 775 acre in Amircha and 816 acre in Mushkaicha areas of Chaghai district to explore iron and ore.

BCDA: The governing body of the Balochistan Coastal Development Authority (BCDA) has decided to give job opportunities in the organization to the deserving people of the area and in the rights of the local fishermen would be protected.

Chief Minister Jam Yousuf, who is also the chairman of the BCDA governing body, presided over a meeting held here on Friday to review various issues related to the authority.

The meeting decided to strictly implement the ban on illegal hunting of fish along the coastal areas of the province, and that guards would be stationed and motor boats would be provided to improve surveillance system.

The meeting also approved the construction of the BCDA's office and a residential colony at Gwadar. The meeting approved to provide funds for the welfare of fishermen, wherein the federal government would be approached to reduce the duty on import of boats for the fishermen.
