RAWALPINDI, Feb 22: Security has been tightened at Japan embassy and its other installations in Pakistan in the wake of intelligence reports that terrorists might strike, an official source told Dawn on Sunday.

"We are taking no chances. Whoever is intending to carry out such activity will not do so easily," a police official said. The source said the interior ministry had directed the Islamabad police to take appropriate security measures for the Japan embassy, its diplomats and other installations.

The security has been tightened in the wake of terrorist threat to Japan for sending its troops to Iraq. Meanwhile, more than 500 activists of Islami Tehrik Pakistan, a banned outfit, have been booked by the Aabpara police on charges of violating ban of protest demonstrations, police said.

Those who have been booked by the police include Maulana Abdul Jalil, Syed Ijaz Hussain, Maulana Shakir Hussain and Mohsin Ali. However, none of them has been arrested by the police so far.
