MITHI: Birds perish in Thar

MITHI, Feb 22: A good number of peacocks, cocks, chickens, pigeons, doves and other birds have recently died in different areas of Tharparkar district apparently due to spread of a disease.

Talking to this correspondent here on Saturday, Dr Allah Nawaz Samoon and Ashraf Ali Samoon said scores of their cocks and hens suddenly died of an unidentified disease during the last couple of days.

Lalji, Jetmal, Allah Rakhio and other residents of the Nagarparkar taluka said peacocks, peahens, doves and partridges had perished in various villages. They demanded the veterinary department should send a team to the area to determine the cause of death of the birds in Thar and take remedial measures.
