KARACHI, Feb 12: Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has said that he discussed different issues relating to Sindh during his meeting in Islamabad with Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. The issues included NFC Award, he added.

The CM said he received assurance from the prime minister that the federal government would take proper care of all the four provinces' requirements. Mr Mahar was talking to electronic mediamen after inaugurating an annual fair at the shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi here on Thursday.

He claimed that law and order situation had improved a lot in upper Sindh, especially in Larkana district. He said the government was duty bound to ensure safety and security of every citizen. He said he himself would pay visits to those areas which would be affected by any deterioration in law and order.

"I have made it clear to the IGP Sindh that negligence and inefficiency on the part of police officials would not be tolerated at any cost," he said and warned that immediate action would be taken against the police officials of the areas where any act of crime was reported.

About a meeting in Islamabad on Police Order-2002 and the Local Government Ordinance-2001, Mr Mahar informed the electronic media that the meeting, presided over by the prime minister, constituted a committee comprising all the four provincial chief secretaries and IGPs to put forward recommendations with regard to these issues.

Replying to a question, the CM said he had also discussed the issues relating to Sindh with the chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, in London.

SHRINE: Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate 1273rd Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi at the saint's shrine, the chief minister promised that funds would soon be provided for facilities of drinking water, ablution, boarding and lodging, etc. at the shrine for devotees and visitors.

He said that the provincial government had already released Rs100 million for construction work at the shrine and Rs50 million each for the shrines of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in addition to the allocation made in master plan.

On the occasion, the CM announced establishment of a library and research centre and a guard room. He also announced a grant of Rs10 million for the shrine. Mr Mahar said: "Sindh is the land of Sufis and the government is taking every possible step to promote teachings of these saints."

Earlier, the CM inaugurated the Urs proceedings by laying a floral wreath at the tomb of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi and offered Fateha. Sindh Minister for Auqaf and Zakat presented Sindhi cap and Ajrak to CM. Chief Administrator of Auqaf Khawar Noor Shaikh, Administrator Syed Mohammad Jafri and DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali were also present on the occasion. -PPI
