KARACHI, Feb 11: A notification pertaining to the establishment of a parallel building control system issued on Tuesday was held in abeyance by the city Nazim after he was assured by the competent authority that the matters about the devolution of the Karachi Building Control Authority would be finalized within a week's time.

An order issued by Karachi Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Wednesday said that "since the Sindh Governor has constituted a committee to look into the matters of devolution of the KBCA; therefore the notification issued vide No Nazim/City/Secy/5076/2004, dated 10 February, is held in abeyance.

"I have been assured that the matter would be finalized in a week's time," the Nazim added in the order faxed to the newspapers on Wednesday evening. In another development, the KBCA chief controller, Brig A.S. Nasir, on Wednesday, got a circular posted on the walls and the notice board of the KBCA, urging employees and officials not to be misled by the news item published in Wednesday's newspapers concerning the KBCA's new setup.

In a signed circular, the KBCA chief stated that "some confusion has been created by a news item attributed to the City Nazim that another organization is being planted as a substitute of the KBCA under Master Plan Group of Offices to undertake KBCA rules under 18 towns of Karachi.

"All employees are being informed that KBCA continues with its mandate as heretofore under SBCO, 1979 and Sindh High Court judgement without fear," the circular added.
