Younis guides Peshwar home

Published February 9, 2004

KARACHI, Feb 8: Test batsman Younis Khan played a sterling captain's knock of 102 on Sunday to guide Peshawar to a four-wicket victory against Rawalpindi in the restricted Quaid-i-Azam One-day Cup tie at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar.

Peshawar, who were chasing a target of 207, had made 178 for six in 35.5 overs when the match was abandoned because of inclement weather. The home side were declared winners under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Younis, who hammered 12 boundaries in his 108-ball innings, put on 166 for the third-wicket with ex-Test opener Wajahatullah Wasti (58 off 86 balls, four fours and one six) after current Pakistan star Yasir Hameed was out for a five-ball duck.

Earlier, medium-pacer Sajid Shah captured five for 37 as Rawalpindi were bowled out for 206 in 48 overs. Skipper Naveed Qureshi made a gallant 82 off 100 balls, striking five fours and two sixes.
