KARACHI, Feb 8: Various sectors of sprawling townships of Orangi and Baldia went without water for the third consecutive day on Sunday, reportedly owing to short supply from the Hub dam source.

Several other localities which experienced acute water shortage on Saturday and Sunday included Adamjee Nagar, Mohammad Ali Housing Society, Bhadurabad No 3, Shabbirabad, Al-Hamra Society, Bangalore Town, Dhoraji Colony, Jinnah Society, Delhi Mercantile Society, KDA Scheme-I, Sharfabad and different sectors of North Karachi.

Dispelling the impression that water supply from the Hub source had been reduced, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board source said that although no curtailment in the supply from the Hub source had been effected, the residents of the affected sectors of Orangi and Baldia townships might be getting the supply with a low pressure owing to leaking pipelines.

He said that a number of pipelines supplying water to different sectors of both the townships, especially Orangi Town, were currently being repaired and water supply position in the affected areas would soon improve considerably following completion of repairs.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from Catholic Colony No 2, Muslimabad, Clifton's Block-2, parts of Kharadar, Soldier Bazaar, Buffer Zone, Model Colony, Khokarapar and deficit pockets of Lyari and Baghdadi.

Residents of Bahadurabad No 3 and Catholic Colony's apartment building 'Oomen Resort,' complained that although acute water shortage had become a matter of routine since long, the officials concerned had not yet taken measures to restore normal supply, despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

"Isn't it amazing that Muslimabad hydrant, which exists next to our Colony (Catholic Colony), gets uninterrupted supply for selling the same through tankers, yet the pipeline often remains dry," remarked a residents of the colony.

Meanwhile, the tankers drawing water from both the public and private sector hydrants did roaring business in the water-starved localities on Sunday, continuing to cause damage to the roads and streets owing to their leaking nozzles.
