GUJRANWALA, Feb 1: The newly-appointed educators at educational institutions in the district have decided to hold protests if they were not paid their salaries within a week.
A large number of educators, at a meeting on Sunday, said that the education department issued them appointment letters on contract basis and posted them at various educational institutions some three months ago after completing all formalities.
They said that they were still not paid their salaries. They said that a delegation of educators met the executive district officer (education) some two days ago who said that their academic certificates had been sent for verification.
FOUR DIE ON ROAD: Road accidents in the district claimed four lives on Sunday. Reports said Shahida Bibi of Jandiala Baghwala village was hit and killed by a speeding bus when she was walking along Pasrur Road.
A speeding wagon collided head-on with a stationary tractor-trolley on Alipur Chattha Road. As a result, Aslam died on the spot while around a dozen other passengers were injured.
The condition of the injured was stated to be critical at the DHQ Hospital.Ghulam Hussain was crossing Sheikhupura Road when a speeding truck hit and killed him.
A speeding mini-bus hit factory worker Ali Muhammad of Wada Pindi Jameki Chattha village on Wazirabad-Alipur Chattha Road. He died on way to THQ Hospital.
ARRESTED: Eleven men were arrested from Alipur bypass intersection while receiving forced tax from public transport vehicle owners on Sunday.
Reports said the accused were forcibly receiving Rs100 from every vehicle owner in the shape of an stand fee. Some transporters informed the Aroop police and district administration who raided and arrested them. Police registered the case against the accused said to be students of a college of Alipur Chattha.
SUSPENDED: An assistant sub-inspector and five constables were suspended from service on charge of negligence by the district police officer on Sunday. DPO Saud Aziz raided Kotwali and Sabzi Mandi police stations and found these police officials absent from duty.
LICENCES CANCELLED: The license of Punjab and Roxy theatres have been cancelled by the Arts Council on the charge of staging vulgar plays.
