KARACHI, May 17: The decision of the authorises concerned to curtail summer vacations has been criticized by parents and students.

They said that in view of the prevailing hot weather in the metropolis these vacations should have commenced a week or so before June 1, instead of June 15 as has been announced.

Parents face a lot of difficulties picking up their children from schools in the afternoon. “The heat in the afternoon these days is almost unbearable. In view of this situation there is no point in moving the commencement of summer vacations forward”, a parent said.

Schoolchildren have also appealed to the concerned authorities that there should be no curtailment in the holidays.

EDO Education, city government, Prof Rais Alvi, has said that this year the summer vacations will be of one-and-half month duration instead of the usual two months which had been the case in the past.

According to the curtailment of 15 days in summer vacations is aimed at ensuring that there are more academic activities in the educational institutions.—APP
