ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: The government has deferred the implementation of the provision of section 73 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 till September 30 on the persistent demand by business community.

A senior sales tax official told Dawn on Friday that the date was extended for yet another month to develop consensus on the issue between the tax officials and relevant stakeholders.

Earlier, the government had deferred the implementation of the article until August 31.

Under the amended section 73, the 120 days limit was abolished and the payment of sales tax through banking channel was reduced from Rs50,000 to sales tax exceeding Rs3,750 on the transaction value of goods exceeding Rs25,000.

The trade bodies and associations demanded that section 73 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 be restored in its previous form for the facilitation of taxpayers.
