KARACHI, Jan 23: A high-level meeting, chaired by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, reviewed the arrangements being made to improve sanitary conditions on Eid-ul-Azha, timely disposal of offal and maintenance of law and order in the city.
The meeting was attended by acting DCO Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Towns Nazims, EDOs, and officials of city police on Friday. It was decided in the meeting that the establishment of cattle market would be allowed only at those places, which had been designated specifically for the purpose by the city government. The participants of the meeting said that no cattle market would be allowed to be set up elsewhere.
They said that town administrations in cooperation with union council administrations would make arrangements for disposal of offal as per previous practice.
The meeting decided that measures would be taken to improve transportation of offal to the 'land fill sites' and for their disposal. Besides, proper machinery would be provide in this regard. It was further decided that City Nazim would visit the 'land fill sites' in Jam Chakro and Hub River Road to inspect the arrangements.
On some complaints that illegal cattle markets had been established in Karachi, the Nazim directed police to immediately remove these illegal cattle markets.
In the meeting, Nazim Gulshan Town suggested that offal should be used for manufacturing fertilizers, which would not only save the money, but, offal would also be disposed of easily. City Nazim agreed with the point and asked other town Nazims to consider the suggestion.
The meeting decided that town administrations should hire services of private transport companies for lifting of offal. Town Nazims would monitor the working in areas falling in their jurisdiction, whereas UC Nazims and councillors would also monitor the working in their respective areas.
Besides, all towns would establish emergency centres in their areas and a central emergency centre would be set up by the city district government. -PPI
