KARACHI, Jan 22: The Shah Faisal Colony flyover constructed at a cost of Rs183.60 million was opened to traffic on Wednesday evening after its formal inauguration by the Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan.
This flyover is Karachi's first project which was completed three months ahead of schedule. The aesthetically constructed flyover provides two ramps and access roads to Sharea Faisal.
The 360-metre-long and 18-feet-wide bridge rests on 222 girders and stands on 148 pillars. Before its construction, the people of Shah Faisal Colony used to cross the railway tracks to reach Sharea Faisal and according to a survey the railway gate used to be closed 87 times a day involving a total closure period of six hours.
The construction of this flyover will not only facilitate the residents of Shah Faisal and adjoining colonies but also the people of Landhi and Korangi. Addressing the ceremony, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan said the project has been completed ahead of schedule and at a cost lesser by Rs 80 million. -APP
