KARACHI, Jan 22: An accountability court indicted a former joint secretary of the interior ministry and his wife in a corruption case. Ziaul Islam, also a former commissioner of Karachi, and Mrs Kauser Perveen pleaded "not guilty" when Judge Mrs Qaiser Iqbal of the AC-1 formally charged the couple with amassing wealth and raising assets, worth over Rs40 million, beyond their known and legal means.

The judge, who is also administrative judge of all ACs in Karachi division, fixed Feb 9 for the next hearing and ordered the special public prosecutor, Syed Nadim Hussain Shah, to produce prosecution witnesses.
