ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to remove all illegal and unnecessarily constructed speedbreakers in the capital. The decision was taken in view of increasing public complaints about the extra speedbreakers that created hindrance in smooth flow of traffic, said a source in the CDA.
The CDA chairman, Kamran Lashari, has asked the director roads to submit a report about illegal and extra speedbreakers, keeping in view the complaints of the citizens.
The source said there was a specified rule to construct a road hump. However, the CDA itself had violated the rule and created abundance to road jumps even in streets. Similarly, there is a specification to construct road- breakers, but one can see varieties of road jumps which cause hardships to motorists.
SHAKARPARIAN VIEWPOINT: Meanwhile, the CDA has said it will remodel the Shakarparian viewpoint in order to improve the condition of the picnic resort.
A CDA source said the locality had lost attraction due to negligence of the officials concerned. The source added that the CDA chairman had prepared plans to maintain all scenic sites to attract more visitors.
In this regard, work on the reconstruction of an open-air theatre at Shakarparian had been started to promote cultural activities in the city. The theatre will be formally opened in March, the source said.
The theatre project was initiated in 1996, but due to negligence it remained incomplete. Mr Lashari had expressed dissatisfaction over the condition of Shakarparian and directed the officials to submit a report on the delay in completion of the work. The CDA has decided that foreign embassies and the private sector would be involved in promoting cultural activities in the capital.
