NEW DELHI, Jan 9: India on Friday handed over a list of 194 Indian rebel camps it says are based in Bangladesh, asking Dhaka to dismantle them, as a bilateral commanders' conference ended here without result over the controversy, officials said.

Indian officials said the four-day-long annual talks, which began on Tuesday, ended without paramilitary commanders of India and Bangladesh reaching a much-awaited accord on joint patrolling of their 4,894-kilometre-long porous frontier.

India's Border Security Force chief Ajai Raj Sharma handed over a list of 194 anti-India rebel camps as well as the names of 100 insurgent leaders to Bangladeshi officials and said New Delhi possessed their locations and addresses in Bangladesh.

"Bangladesh Rifles denied the presence of such rebel camps in Bangladesh ... Delegation members, however, assured the Indian side that they would verify the list given by India and take action if any such camps were found on Bangladesh soil," an Indian home ministry official said after the talks.

India says outlawed separatist groups stage hit-and-run guerrilla strikes in some of India's seven north-eastern states from their alleged camps in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has consistently rejected New Delhi's allegations over the existence of such camps.-AFP
