KARACHI, Jan 9: A sum of Rs200 million has been approved for the girl students in the middle schools in the province. This was stated by Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat during a visit to girls' primary and secondary schools in Chanesar Goth on Friday.

The minister said that the amount would be utilized for awarding stipends of Rs100 per month each to the girls studying in the middle schools, which he hoped would enable the girls from poor families to acquire education.

Mr Marwat further announced that changes would also be introduced in the curriculum this year. He was informed by the school headmistress and Ms Munira Habib, who had adopted the school, that it had been made English medium from KG up to class-V, and that a computer laboratory had also been set up for girls.

The minister also sanctioned telephone and gas connections for the school, as he was informed that there were no such facilities at the school, which also needed another laboratory.

Mr Marwat also gave cash prizes to the students, for outstanding academic acti-vities. The performance of the headmistress was also lauded. When informed that the ADO (Female), Jamshed Town, did not visit the schools, the minister suspended her. He also directed action against a teacher who remained absent.-APP
