KARACHI, May 16: Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) is planning to conduct Latif Masters International Team Snooker Championship in September.

PBSA President Asghar Valika told newsmen Thursday that details are being worked out for staging the event.

He said as a first step they have already written letters to Peoples Republic of China, Thailand and United Arab Emirates (UAE) to convey their availability for the four-nations contest.

He said besides these three foreign countries, host Pakistan will enter two teams in the championship. He said the basic purpose of staging the competition is to provide international exposure to Pakistan cueists to polish their skill.

He said besides a couple of major cities, holiday resort Bhurban is considered as prospective the venue for the international contest.

Asghar said according to detail discussed so far, each participating teams will comprise of three players and an official.

He said National Pool and Billiards Championship will be held at Indus Club between June 15-23. He said the winners of the competition will represent Pakistan in Asian Games where Pakistan besides snooker will be featuring in billiards and pool competition.

PBSA Chief said an enhanced purse of Rs 30,000 each will be given to winners in Pool and Billiards while runners-up collect Rs 15,000 while losing semi final will get Rs 5000 in both the events.

Muhammad Hussain of NWFP and Khurram Hussain Agha will defend their titles in Billiards and Pool respectively.—APP
