HYDERABAD, Jan 6: District Naib Nazim Nawab Rashid Ali Khan has expressed dissatisfaction over the performances of health department institutions and called upon the people to help NGOs in their development and social welfare activities.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day free eye surgical camp organized by the Goth Sudhar Sangat in collaboration with the Society for Prevention and Cure of Blindness in the Jhando Khoso village here on Tuesday.
He said the Hyderabad District Council had adopted several resolutions at its sessions, demanding better medical facilities for the people of rural areas.The Naib Nazim said it was the responsibility of the government to honour these resolutions.
Lauding the services rendered by the Goth Sudhar Sangat, Jhandho Khoso village chapter, in providing medical facilities to the people, he announced Rs10,000 for the organization and appealed to philanthropists to come forward and help organizations serving the cause of humanity.
DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed said the district government had adopted a participatory approach to carry out development activities in consultation and coordination with stakeholders.
He said a citizens' community board was being established in the district to involve residents and NGOs in development activities. He said NGOs could play a vital role in bringing about a change in the society. He said the district government was seeking their involvement in development activities.
Referring to demands of the people, the DCO said a rural health centre or a basic health centre would be included in the next financial budget. He said the district government would extend all possible help in providing doctors, medicines and equipment to NGOs interested in establishing medical camps in the area.
The EDO, health, Agha Tariq, lauded the services of organizers of the eye camp and announced 50 eye-lenses and Rs2,000 for them. The EDO, community development, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, appealed to social welfare organizations to provide health, education and job-oriented facilities to the people of rural areas.
Dr Nisar Ahmad Memon, the leader of the doctors' team working at the camp, said four doctors were engaged in carrying out operations. He said free medicines, lenses and lodging and boarding facilities were being provided to patients.
Hyderabad Taluka Naib Nazim Tariq Ali Shah Jamote demanded that the abandoned building of the basic health unit should be made functional and a road project should be announced for Bhindo Sharif. Social worker Abdul Haq Shaikh announced Rs10,000 for the organizers of the camp.
Earlier, the president of the Goth Sudhar Sangat, Jhando Khoso village, Nizamuddin Khoso, in his welcome speech said the aim of the organization was to serve the people on self-help basis.
