Published May 17, 2002

LAHORE, May 16: The Lahore Development Authority completed on Thursday the vacation of Tollinton Market on The Mall following disposal of stay applications by the Lahore High Court.

By ejecting a handful of shopkeepers, who were opposed to shifting to the new market in Shadman and had obtained stay orders from the High Court, an LDA squads completed the process started in 1994. Their applications were dismissed by the LHC on Wednesday.

The ejected shopkeepers could not move to the 13 shops allotted to them at the Shadman Tollinton after their ejectment because the shops were sealed by the LDA after they moved the LHC. The Shadman market consists of 107 shops, 94 of which were occupied by the shopkeepers who shifted their businesses from The Mall in 1994. — Reporter
