KARACHI, May 16: Many areas in the city remained without electricity on Thursday despite the decrease in temperature to 34 degrees Celsius.
Sources in the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation told Dawn that power supply had been interrupted in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Landhi, Malir, Korangi, Kharadar, Lyari, North Nazimabad, Sector 14/A Shadman Town and West Wharf.
A resident of Kharadar, Newnham Street, told Dawn that power shutdowns did not follow a schedule in his locality. “We have power shutdowns in the morning, evening and at night — almost all the time. I have no idea why we pay taxes to a government that cannot ensure uninterrupted supply of power.”
He said that last week, his locality had experienced power closure for more than seven hours, adding that the telephone lines at his complaint centre either remained engaged or unattended.
A resident of Old Golimar told Dawn that his locality had been without power for more than two hours.
A resident of North Nazimabad, Block A, told Dawn that his locality had been without power twice — first from 6am to 7.30am and second from 9am to 2pm.
A resident of PECHS, Block 6, told Dawn that he had experienced a power shutdown from 2pm to 3.15pm.
“We experience a power shutdown every day. If it is loadshedding, then we should be told about it,” he said.
