KARACHI, Aug 30: Returning officers of all five districts of Karachi rejected a total of 14 nomination forms of the National and Sindh Assemblies’ after the scrutiny process on Friday.

The scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates who have filed their papers for nine reserved seats of minorities in Sindh Assembly was also held at the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Sindh Office here.

According to EC sources, out of 95 forms, 85 were found in order, whereas the decision on 11 forms was deferred for want of different papers.

Official sources at the district offices said four nomination forms were rejected for the national assembly elections, and 10 for the Sindh assembly.

Prominent among the rejected forms included those of central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) Cpt. Haleem Siddiqui, Khalid Amin of MQM (H), Raja Karamat of Pakistan People’s Party (SB), Shabbana Perveen, Akhtar Mehmood and others.

Prominent political leaders whose forms have been accepted were Nasreen Jalil of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and former Sindh Governor and central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mamnoon Hussain.

THURSDAY’S SCRUTINY: At least eight nomination forms for the NA and 27 for the Sindh assembly were rejected in Karachi after the scrutiny of papers on Thursday.

At least 137 nomination forms of both the National and Sindh assemblies’ were approved in all districts of the city.

Prominent among those whose forms were accepted included former information minister and central leader of the Millat Party Javed Jabbar, former federal labour minister and chief of PML (Zia-ul-Haq) Ejazul Haq, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Shafi Mohammad Shah of the Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and the chief of the Mazdoor Kissan Party, Fatehyab Ali Khan, among others.

Two forms for the NA were rejected in district East, whereas forms for 10 candidates for the PA were rejected in the same district.

In district Central, two NA forms and three PA forms were rejected. In district West, three forms of the NA and 11 forms of the Sindh assembly were rejected.

In district South, two forms for the PA were rejected, and in district Malir one form for the national assembly was rejected.

The Election Commission office of Sindh rejected five nomination forms of women candidates for 29 reserved seats of the Sindh assembly.

Those whose forms were accepted included Rahila Tiwani, Nasreen Chandio, Nuzhat Pathan, Dr Farzana, Irshad Jilani, Dr Nusrat Leghari, Naseem Noorani and Sabira Qaisar. At least 240 women candidates have filed their nomination papers for reserved PA seats.—APP
