KARACHI, May 13: Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, on Monday, stressed the need for a more active role of local governments in the maintenance of law and order.
“Establishment of a conducive law and order situation is our collective responsibility and the role of Nazims is all the more important,” he said while addressing a joint meeting of Nazims, DCOs and secretaries of provincial departments at the New Sindh Secretariat.
The meeting discussed and reviewed the pace of development schemes, performance of local governments and other related matters.
The governor called for maintaining a strict watch on anti- social elements and people involved in crimes throughout the province. He said that the task should be carried out without negligence or slackness. In this regard, he emphasized upon making the intelligence network more effective and meaningful.
The governor issued directives for accelerating the pace of development works with maximum utilization of allocated funds. He said that the schemes should be completed within the stipulated period and in accordance with the prescribed standards.
He made it clear to the elected representatives that after their election, they now represent every person and part of their respective area.
Mr Soomro advised that priorities should be set as per merit and development works be conceived without any discrimination.
He stressed on a transparent process of wheat purchase and said that all possible facilities be provided to farmers in this regard.
Mr Soomro also emphasized upon the judicious distribution of irrigation water and said that strict vigil should be maintained against water theft.
He appreciated the performance of Nazims and other elected representatives during the referendum.
