BADIN, Dec 20: Police after raiding a brick kiln recovered 25 bonded labourers out of which eight were women and 11 children.
A brick kiln near Tando Ghulam Ali was raided by police on Friday night on the orders of second additional sessions judge, Badin, Ghulam Rasool Samoon. The order was issued on an application filed by a labourer Soomar Oad.
Liberated people included Ramesh, Soomar, Hakiman, Haresh, Wazir, Rekha, Mukesh Kumar, Madan Lal, Mangal, Juman, Bachi, Sattar, Sharifan, Gulabi, Gulmir, Dilawar, Madho, Anwar, Sanji, Jamki, Sarwar, Sani Dewal and others.
The complainant said that he, his family members and relatives were working at the kiln for last 18 months but denied wages as owners kept delaying payments, making their lives miserable. He said that the respondents having influence in the administration had confined his relatives.
Police produced all recovered people in the court on Saturday where owner of the kiln denied allegations. The court ordered to set free the recovered people.
THREAT: People of Badin district have threatened to launch protest movement against district administration if it failed in taking action against transporters for overcharging.
They accused the district administration of not issuing notification of the revised fares and allowing transporters and rickshaw owners to exploit poor people.
