SUKKUR, May 12: The Sukkur Taluka Council on Saturday lifted the ban on allotment of plots in kutcha abadis with immediate effect, which would benefit more than 12,000 dwellers.

Taluka Nazim Syed Kazim Ali Shah told newsmen here that there existed 29 kutcha abadis in Sukkur, of which 15 were recognized by the provincial government. They were allowed to give allotment orders to the people residing in those areas.

He agreed with the reporters that large-scale irregularities and fraud had been detected in kutcha abadis allotments in the past and one single plot was allotted to five different persons. The people, as such, were litigating for the possessions.

He cited a big fraud in the allotment of kutcha abadis in which an officer, Akhter Shaikh, had allotted a valuable plot of the Sukkur Municipal Corporation, measuring 2,200 sq.ft, in the name of one Tapedar, Mohammad Chuttal.

He disclosed that the authorities not only cancelled the allotment, but also initiated an inquiry against the culprit.

He advised the dweller of kutcha abadis to contact the officials concerned and produce their documents for allotment.

cops put behind bars: Two police constables of the ‘C’ Section police station, Sukkur, were put behind bars while the SHO, ‘A’ Section, was suspended by the AIG, Sukkur, on Saturday.

Police constables Abdul Ghafoor Panhwer and Abdul Jabbar were arrested on charges of extorting money from an innocent man. They also allegedly tortured him.

The AIG also ordered demotion of ‘A’ Section police station SHO Ahmed Hussain Abro and placed him under suspension on charges of corruption.

He was allegedly involved in gambling.

Press clubs unified: The Sukkur Press Club and the National Press Club, Sukkur, got unified after 20 years following a conciliatory meeting here on Sunday.

The clubs were split following differences among the journalists.
