Dollar up

LONDON, Oct 17: The dollar edged higher against the euro in volatile trading on Friday, with investors anxious and uncertain about the direction of the global economy.The uncertainty, analysts said, has favoured the dollar, which is seen as a safe haven in such circumstances.

The euro in late-day trade was at 1.3441 dollars, down from 1.3447 on Thursday in New York.

The dollar was meanwhile trading lower against the yen at 101.46, against 101.65 on Thursday.

In London trade on Friday, the euro changed hands at 136.44 yen against 136.70 late Thursday, 0.7776 pounds (0.7773) and 1.5262 Swiss francs (1.5305).

The dollar stood at 101.46 yen (101.65) and 1.1349 Swiss francs (1.1378).—AFP
