SAHIWAL, Oct 12: Officials of law-enforcement agencies and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) raided a house in Farid Town here on Sunday and confiscated three to four maunds of hashish and arrested the owner of the house.

Dawn learned through sources that around 15 personnel, including females, came on three vehicles and raided Shafiq’s house in Farid Town’s X Block at around 6am.

A local informed Dawn that Shafiq, who wore long beard, had shifted here after buying the house in Rs2.9 million just a month ago.

Eyewitnesses said that Shafiq first led the ANF personnel to a place away from his house from where huge cache of hashish was seized. Some quantity of hashish was also found buried inside the house. Later, the ANF personnel took Shafiq along with seized contraband to an undisclosed location.

A raiding team member while leaving the house told Dawn that they were searching for a hashish racketeer.

When Dawn contacted Farid Town police, they expressed their ignorance about the raid.

Local people first feared that the arrested man was member of any terrorist organisation, however they got relieved when they knew that he was a peddler.
