KARACHI, May 9: Teachers in the city colleges observed a black day to protest against the killing of Prof Zafar Mehdi, principal of Jamia Millia College, and other two staffer.

Teachers performed their academic duties wearing black arm-bands and held a Quran Khawani and protest meetings on Thursday. Teachers in other parts of the province also observed a black day, said a press release of SPLA.

The meetings demanded that the killers of Prof Mehdi, driver Munir Zaman, and peon Mukhtar Ahmad be arrested immediately and the family members of the deceased be paid immediate compensation. The meetings also deplored the murder of Dr Ghulam Murtaza Malik.

Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the SPLA and the Sindh Poly-Technic Teachers’ Association was held on Thursday to plan a protest campaign against the killing of teachers. A joint meeting of all teachers’ bodies would be held on May 11 to evolve a joint strategy.
