KARACHI, Sept 28: The Sindh government has given its approval to a summary pertaining to the payment of surety amount of 25 prisoners so that they could celebrate Eidul Fitr with their families.
The approval was given by Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqir Fatima Bhutto on Sunday.
The government will pay the fine and surety money of seven women and 18 juvenile prisoners who could not be freed as they were not able to pay the fine and surety money.
The matter was discussed at the 17th meeting of the Committee for Women and Juvenile Prisoners, which decided to extend the assistance to the prisoners.
The committee also approved the travel expenses of 12 foreign prisoners, all women, to enable them to fly to their countries of origin.
Secretary Women Development Gul Mohammad Umrani, briefing the meeting about the committee’s performance, said that it had approved payment of fine money of 37 women and one juvenile prisoner earlier. Besides, the committee had undertaken to bear the travel expenses of nine foreign women prisoners. Bail amounts of nine women and 74 juvenile prisoners had also been approved by the committee.
The meeting was attended, among others, by the DIG of prisons, additional secretary of the social welfare department and deputy secretary of finance department.—PPI
