KARACHI, Sept 28: Two suspected dacoits were killed late on Sunday in a shootout with police in Clifton.
The police chief of Clifton Town, SP Azad Khan, told Dawn that the two dacoits had snatched a yellow cab (PG-2498) from its driver, Munawwar Shahzad, near the Saudi consulate and later they deprived a man, Zia, of his mobile phone and Rs8,000 at gunpoint near Seaview.
The SP said the suspected dacoits were spotted by a police team patrolling in the area, headed by the SHO of Boat Basin, near Boat Basin Park.
The police signaled them to stop. “However, the bandits opened fire at the police who also retaliated killing both of them,” he added.
The dacoits remained unidentified till our going to press.
Father of five shot dead
A 35-year-old man was shot dead at Korangi No5 1/2 a little after Iftar, said police.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the victim was identified as Shaukat Ali alias Kalli Bhai, son of Makhdoom.
The police said the victim was a salesman in a ghee company and was going on his motorcycle when two unknown motorcyclists opened fire at him. They said the victim was married with five children.
Body found
A trussed up body of an unidentified young man was found from bushes at a desolate place in the limits of Sachal police station.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Sources said the victim had been strangled. They said the victim, clad in off-white Shalwar-Kameez, appeared to be in his early 30s.
The body was later shifted to the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
Doctor gunned down
Armed men gunned down a doctor in Saddar area on Saturday night.
Police said Dr Inayatullah was returning home after visiting his clinic in Ranchore Line area, when the assailants opened fire at him outside his home. The doctor died on the spot.
The body was shifted for legal formalities to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Sources said the victim received two bullets in his upper torso from a close range as the bullets went through his body.
The police have registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
Two injured
Dacoits injured two men who offered resistance during a robbery bid on Sunday.
A gang of armed bandits barged into a house in Surjani town area and held the inmates hostage at gunpoint. When the inmates offered resistance the dacoits opened fire injuring 55-year-old Zahoor Ahmed, and his 25-year-old nephew, Irshad, before fleeing.
The injured were rushed to Abbassi Shaheed Hospital.
