HYDERABAD, May 8: The president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Labour Wing, Sindh, Mohammad Afzal Gujjar, has condemned the registration of a sedition case against party leaders, including Raja Zafarul Haq, Akram Zaki, Malik Naeem Awan, Makhdoom Shahnawaz and 26 others.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr Gujjar said that the government was suffering from Nawaz Sharif phobia.

He said the party which was striving to make Pakistan a strong democratic state and a fort of Islam was being dubbed as anti-state party whereas those elements who were propagating the disintegration of Pakistan and talking of independence were roaming about freely and the government was trying to enter into deal with them.

He said that these double standards would lead the country to destruction.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: As many as 33 schemes have been launched in the province at a cost of Rs221.794 million for the development of agriculture, livestock and fisheries under the ADP, 2001-2002.

This was disclosed at a meeting held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sindh agriculture, livestock and fisheries minister Hassan Ali Chanhio.

The meeting discussed in detail the progress of the schemes under the annual development programme (ADP).

The meeting was informed that while the work was continuing on 28 development schemes, five new schemes had also been added to the programme. A survey about the livestock diseases, Indus dairy development programme, introduction of Zero-tillage technology, seed breeders, agro-export processing zone and cotton crop production are the new schemes.

The minister directed to utilize the funds released for the schemes honestly by June 2002 so that the benefit could be passed on to the growers.

The officials concerned informed the meeting that Rs0.7 million had been earmarked for plant protection, Rs13.482 million for eight agricultural research schemes and Rs4.351 million had been allocated for agricultural education.

Similarly, Rs12.007 million was being spent on three water management schemes, Rs108.47 million on five agriculture extension schemes, Rs68.168 million on six livestock schemes and Rs14.612 million on three fisheries schemes.
