KARACHI, May 8: The District Coordination Officer, Karachi, Shafiq-ur-Rehman Piracha, said that after Wednesday morning’s blast on Club Road, our first concern was to rush the injured to hospitals.

Speaking to newsmen at the site of the blast, he said that the injured were taken to Civil Hospital and Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre.

“The injured are under treatment at the moment and some are in the operation theatre,” he informed.

“Any observation about the motive of the blast can be made only after an investigation,” he replied to a question.

Piracha, who lives close by, reached the site a couple of minutes after the blast where he found 10 dead and 16 injured.

After reaching the blast site, Mr Piracha made SOS calls for ambulances and fire brigades and supervized the rescue operation and transportation of the dead and injured to hospitals which were put on alert. He also coordinated with the Navy officials who reached the spot.

Sindh Chief Secretary, Javed Ashraf Hussain; Inspector General of Police Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah and City Capital Police Chief Asad Jehangir also reached the site of the bomb blast.

The Chief Fire Officer, A.R. Khan, said that it was a massive blast but by the grace of Allah, there was no fire or things would have been more disastrous.

Meanwhile, due to the impact of the massive blast, the windowpanes of both the Sheraton and Pearl Continental hotels were shattered.—APP
