KARACHI, May 8: Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, has said that the government will not rest until anti-state forces and terrorism are eliminated.

He said that the government and the people have decided to do away with every impediment coming in the way of peace and development.

In a statement, the governor, while condemning the bomb blasts and killings in Karachi, declared that every act of the enemies of peace and development would be responded with greater force.

He said that Pakistan will continue to play its full role in international efforts against terrorism.

He expressed the confidence that Pakistan would continue to get international cooperation in this regard and the anti-state forces would not be able to sabotage Pakistan’s such international relationship.

He described Wednesday’s bomb blast as an act of anti-state elements who, he said, were out to deteriorate the situation and sabotage the investment climate in Karachi.

He said that the conditions in Karachi had registered an improvement during which full protection was provided to members of foreign missions, investors and citizens.

He said this was admitted several times by diplomats, high- powered visiting foreign delegations and dignitaries.

As regards Wednesday’s blast, the governor said that it is being looked into from all angles, and steps would be taken to make the investigation meaningful.

The Sindh Governor expressed his heartfelt sympathies for all those who lost their lives in the blast or suffered injuries. He offered condolences to the Karachi-based French Consul General as well.

Meanwhile, he also inspected the scene of the blast and later visited the injured admitted in the Aga Khan, Al-Shifa and Jinnah Postgraduate hospitals.

He was accompanied by Chief Secretary, Javed Ashraf Hussain; Home Secretary, Mukhtar Ahmed; IG Police, Syed Kamal Shah; City Police Chief Asad Jehangir and other officials.

Later, he held a meeting with the concerned officials at the Governor’s House and issued directives for employing all resources for comprehensive investigation and the arrest of the culprits.

CITY NAZIM: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the bomb blast which claimed the lives of 10 French nationals and two Pakistanis.

On receiving information about the blast, he reached the scene of the blast and later visited the office of the French Consul General, Gilles F. Bonnaud, to offer his condolences and sympathies.

Earlier, the Nazim also went to the Jinnah Hospital where he inquired about the condition of the injured.

The French Ambassador in Pakistan who rushed to Karachi from Islamabad was also received by the City Nazim at the airport who accompanied him to the Aga Khan Hospital to meet the injured.

NAIB NAZIM: The Naib Nazim, Tariq Hassan, also vehemently condemned Wednesday morning’s suicide bombing in the city.

He expressed his deep sorrow and grief at the loss of lives in the incident, terming it as a dastardly act.

He said that such incidents were aimed at disturbing the law and order situation and obstructing foreign investment.

Mr Hassan also visited the JPMC to inquire about the injured.—APP
