KARACHI, May 8: Teachers at polytechnic institutions in the province on Wednesday observed a black day and suspended academic activities to protest against the killing of the principal of Jamia Millia Polytechnic Institute, Malir.
A spokesman for the Sindh Polytechnic Teachers Association said that teachers wore black arm-bands and held condolence meetings on Wednesday. They expressed concern over the government’s failure to arrest the killers.
Prof Zafar Mehdi along with his driver and peon was killed in an ambush about 500 yards from his polytechnic institute. The fresh murder has caused concern among the academics as they felt that like doctors, educationists were also being killed under a conspiracy.
A few months back, chairman of the Sindh Technical Board, Syed Hassan, was killed near his residence in North Nazimabad, then attempts were made on the life of Prof Syed Azhar Hussain Zaidi of Superior Science College and his son in February.
