KARACHI, May 7: A young man was shot dead in Baghdadi on Tuesday night.

Police said the victim, Syed Asghar Ali Zaidi, aged 32, was in his tailoring shop on Kara Bhai Karim Jee Road in Naya Abad when an assailant came to his shop and opened fire on him. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died.

The assailant escaped, with his accomplice, who was waiting outside the shop, on a motorcycle. They escaped into the narrow streets of the area without facing any resistance from law-enforcement personnel.

Sources at Civil Hospital said Zaidi received two bullets: one in the chest and the other in the spine. Police said the dead man was a tailor master and he had a small tailoring shop in the area.

After the killing, tension gripped the area and shopkeepers pulled their shutters down.

A senior police officer of Lyari Town said, according to the initial investigation, the killing appeared to be sectarian motivated.

CARJACKING: Twenty-one vehicles — 10 cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Four cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Four motorcycles were hijacked and seven others stolen in Saddar, New Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad police limits, etc.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered two cars and one motorcycle in the city.

DIES: Partially decomposed body of a young man was found in his house in Punjab Colony.

Police said 2-3 days old body of Shamsuddin, aged 35, was found in his house by his wife when she returned home from work. The woman worked as a domestic servant in a bungalow and often stayed at her workplace for several days. The couple was childless.

On Tuesday when the woman returned home her husband did not answer when she knocked on the door. She contacted neighbours who informed police on phone No 15.

Police broke open the door and found Shamsuddin lying dead on the floor. The body was at least 2-3 days old and had become partially decomposed, police said.

The body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem.

The man might have consumed poison to commit suicide. However, the cause of death could be ascertained only after the post-mortem report, a duty officer at Frere police station said.

The post-mortem report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical report, sources at the JPMC said.

After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the man’s wife for burial, police said.
