KARACHI, May 7: A meeting of the Punjabi Pukhtoon Itehad on Tuesday called for the formation of more provinces in the country for running its political and economic affairs effectively.

The meeting, presided over by its founder leader Ghulam Sarwar Awan and held in Karachi, was of the view that to providing maximum civic facilities to the ever -rising population of Pakistan the formation of new provinces was necessary.

It pointed out India at the time of Partition had only seven provinces which were later divided into 29 but Pakistan had remained unchanged even after 54 years.

The meeting decided to keep all options open to form election alliances with other like-minded parties. It was told that negotiations with other parties were under way.

The meeting offered full support to the government’s reforms agenda. It appreciated the efforts of federal information minister Nisar A Memon to develop an understanding with political parties.—PPI
