Work on projects slows down

OKARA, Oct 24: With the establishment of the district government, work on development projects has lost momentum as the authorities concerned in the district council and three tehsil councils seem to be in no hurry.

District coordination officer Masood Chaudhry directed the authorities to shift the ongoing road projects to the highway department and building projects to the department concerned.

The Punjab government directed high-ups a month ago to do payments to the contractors accordingly. However, contractors in Okara district have not been given a penny yet.

Non-payment of dues and discontinuation of projects are at present the main concern for them.

At least 300 employees in the district council are drawing their salaries but without any assignment with them.

The action committee of the contractors association has urged district Nazim Syed Sajjad Haider and district coordination officer Khalid Masud Chaudhry to look into the matter without delay.

KILLED: Three people were killed while five others sustained injuries in an accident in Renala Khurd on Monday evening.

A coaster, on its way to Burewala from Lahore, rammed into a bus parked along the GT Road near Chak 11/1-AZ. Baba Boota of Burewala and another passenger died on the spot while Muhammad Nawaz of Sheikhu Aminpur succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The injured, including Sajid, conductor Mozahir Qureshi and others, were taken to the DHQ Hospital.

The injured bus driver managed to escape.
