HARIPUR, May 6: Around two dozen villages in three union councils of the district are facing the worst shortage of potable water, a survey revealed.
During a visit to Sera-i-Nehmat Khan, Pind Hasham Khan and Beer union councils, it was observed that the ponds and streams which were the only source of water for a population of over 60,000 had either dried up or the water level had dropped to an extremely low level.
It was witnessed that men, women and children walked miles daily for fetching water as the nearest mountain springs had gone dry due to the hot weather.
Sera-i-Nehmat Khan UC Nazim Malik Younas criticized the previous governments for not honouring their promises and said the Nawaz Sharif government promised to sink five tube wells when he was elected from the area, but he never visited his constituency afterwards.
