PESHAWAR, May 6: The mother and uncle of a kidnapped medical representatives, Jamil Hussain, have appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to intervene and secure the freedom of their son.

Speaking at a news conference here at the Peshawar Press  Club on Sunday, the residents of Shaheen Housing Scheme, including the mother and uncle of kidnapped man, said Hussain was kidnapped by seven persons Noor Hussain, Hasan Baz, Mohammad Alam, Khan Zamir, Sanab, Millat and Tariq alias Charat on June 18, 2001 from the cantonment area. The relatives of Hussain got registered an FIR (300) with the Gharbi police station, Saddar.

They said all the kidnappers belonged to the Sipah sub-clan of Afridi tribe living in Khajoor village of Bara in Khyber Agency.

The kidnappers had initially demanded Rs30 million as ransom, then reduced it to Rs10 million, then Rs8, and the latest is Rs4 million for Hussain’s release.

They said they had repeatedly approached the kidnappers and their tribal chief, Malik Mohammad Ali, a nephew of Azam Afridi, Nazim Peshawar, and asked him to help them, but he turned down their request.

They alleged that Syed Jamaluddin, assistant political agent, Khyber Agency, has not taken any action against the kidnappers and instead has advised the relatives of captive to pay the ransom to the culprits.

They appealed to the President and governor to help them in the recovery of Hussain, who is languishing in a far-flung mountain cave in Khyber Agency.
