HYDERABAD, May 6: The authorities of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, announced on Monday that the university teachers had postponed their boycott and attended their examination duties.

A press release of the university said that in accordance with the examination schedule, the first paper of the 98 batch, seventh term, was held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and the teachers were present on their duties.

However, sources said that the university teachers association had postponed the boycott only up to May 9 on which date a meeting is scheduled to be held between the vice chancellor and the teachers association to discuss the problems of the faculty and the students.

Sources said that if no decision was taken on May 9, the association would decide its future course of action on May 10.

JSSF: The Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF), Mehran University unit, observed black day at the campus to protest against the alleged wrong policies of the vice chancellor and his unbecoming attitude towards the teachers.

They wore black arm-bands and held a general body meeting at the central canteen park.

Speaking on the occasion, JSSF president Asif Magsi and joint secretary Badaruddin Junejo warned that if the problems of teachers were not resolved by May 9, the JSSF would launch a protest movement against the vice chancellor.

FREE BOOKS: The District Nazim Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, and DCO Hyderabad Mir Hussain Ali will distribute free text books to primary school students at Government Boys High School, Tando Hyder, on May 9.

MARRIAGE: The marriage ceremony of a deaf and dumb girl, Bano, who had been living in Darul Aman for the last five years, was solemnized here on Monday with Bahram Bhatti, a servant of former commissioner, Hyderabad.

All the marriage arrangements, including dowry, were borne by the Social Welfare Management committee of the Darul Aman. The EDO (Community Development) Hyderabad, Shams Jafrani, District Social Welfare officer Nayyar Malik, representatives of social welfare organization and elite of the town attended the marriage.

NAZIM FLAYED: The Sindh Journalists Organization (SJO) has lashed out at the Nazim of the Union Council New Dambalo, Taluka Matli, who has created a ‘splinter’ body of Dambalo Press Club and has also rented out its premises to his favourites.

The SJO said that such measures have led to unrest among the newsmen.

A press release of the ad hoc committee of SJO said that until and unless the press club premises is handed over to genuine journalists, the protest would continue.

The head of the SJO ad hoc committee, Lala Rehman Samoon, who is also president of Hyderabad Press Club, called upon the journalists to take part in the protest demonstration scheduled to be held at New Dambalo on Wednesday.
