Chenab in medium flood

LAHORE, Aug 1: The River Chenab is in a medium flood at Qadirabad and in low at Khanki while the Ravi is also in a low flooding at Balloki.

All other major rivers are flowing below the low flood level.

Flood Forecasting Division sources say hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts are likely to remain in high floods on Saturday (today).

Widespread thunderstorm/rain has been forecast for upper and lower catchments areas of all major rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej in the next 24 hours.

According to Met report, a westerly wave is moving across the northern parts of Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan while a strong monsoon current from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea is reaching Punjab and Kashmir up to 7,000 feet. A well marked seasonal low lies over Balochistan.

Widespread thunderstorm/rain with moderate to heavy falls at isolated places was forecast for the NWFP, Punjab and Kashmir while scattered thunderstorm/rain is expected over northeast Balochistan and Upper Sindh.

Light rain is also expected over Sindh Makran coast.

Also, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (flood forecasting division) has asked the authorities to take precautionary measures to avoid loss of lives and property due to heavy rains.—APP
