ISLAMABAD, July 25: Weekly inflation measured through sensitive price index (SPI) surged by an all-time high of 32.22 per cent during the week ended on July 25 over the corresponding week of last year, Statistics Division said on Friday.
This surge in inflation occurred on the back of the highest-ever increase in oil prices last week, which pushed the retail price of every commodity. The actual impact of oil price would be imminent in the coming weeks.
The inflation, however, recorded an increase of 1.66 per cent over the previous week, indicating a rising trend in the prices of these commodities.
The SPI data showed that the worst hit were households with Rs3,000 monthly incomes.
According to the data, the SPI witnessed an increase of 34 per cent and 32.61 per cent for households in income brackets of up to Rs3,000 and Rs3,001 to Rs5,000, respectively.
For households in the income brackets of Rs5,001 to 12,000, the increase was in the range of 32.30 per cent, and for households in the income basket of over Rs12,000, inflation registered a growth of 32.12 per cent over the week last year.
The prices of tomato rose by 25.04 per cent to Rs30.91 per kg from Rs24.72, diesel by 17.26 per cent to Rs64.89 per litres from Rs55.34, petrol by 14.53 per cent to Rs86.95 per litres from Rs75.92 and kerosene 9.43 per cent to Rs70.09 per litres from Rs64.05 during the week under review.
Chicken price went up by 8.18 per cent to Rs97.65 per kg from Rs90.27, garlic by 3.16 per cent to Rs37.84 per kg from Rs36.66, masoor washed by 2.79 per cent to Rs120.71 per kg against Rs117.43 and LPG 11 kg cylinder by 2.63 per cent to Rs786.85 each against Rs766.66.
Tea (prepared) price increased by 2.07 per cent to Rs7.88 per cup from Rs7.72, cooked dal plate by 2.02pc to Rs24.30 each against Rs23.82, washing soap nylon by 1.87pc to Rs12.01 each from Rs11.79 and gram pulse washed by 1.71pc to Rs61.97 per kg from Rs60.93.
The price of wheat was up by 1.59 per cent to Rs21.74 per kg from Rs21.40, curd by 1.36pc to Rs41.12 per kg from Rs40.57, cooked beef plate by 1.20pc to Rs37.12 each from Rs36.68 and egg by 0.96pc to Rs58.82 per dozen from Rs58.26.
Onion price increased by 9.91 per cent to Rs17.79 per kg from Rs17.63, mustard oil 0.84pc to Rs150.72 per kg from Rs149.47, mutton by 0.72pc to Rs250.13 per kg from Rs248.35, gur 0.66pc to Rs33.38 per kg from Rs33.16, milk fresh 0.58pc to Rs34.70 per kg from Rs34.50 and moong washed 0.47pc to Rs55.70 from Rs55.44.
The price of shirting increased by 0.40 per cent to Rs74.83 per metres from Rs74.53, salt powdered 0.36pc to Rs5.65 per kg from Rs5.63, rice basmati broken 0.365pc to Rs54.43 per kg from Rs54.24, firewood by 0.32pc to Rs246.30 per 40 kg from Rs245.51, 0.28pc to Rs43.34 per metres from Rs43.22, beef 0.22pc to Rs133.89 per kg from Rs133.60, sugar 0.13pc to Rs31.91 from Rs31.87 and mash pulse washed 0.12pc to Rs73.71 per kg from Rs73.62.
