DADU, July 18: A team of Sindh Ombudsman’s office on Friday initiated an inquiry into allegations against the director of the Ombudsman’s Dadu region office by two ASI’s who accused the official of “using harsh language and making them wait outside office”.

The team led by Abdul Razzaq Qureshi was recording statements of ASI Mukhtiar Khokhar and ASI Ayaz Bughio at the Wapda Rest-house when DCO and district officials of finance, police, revenue and a number of other departments arrived there and submitted a barrage of complaints against the director.

ASI Mukhtiar Khokhar said that Regional Director Saeed Khan Mubejo would call him twice or thrice a week to his office and use harsh language.

ASI Ayaz Bughio said that Mr Mubejo threatened to send him to jail. He would make him wait outside his office for five to six hours whenever he called him, he complained.

Sher Mohammad accused ASI Ayaz Bughio of barging into his house with a police party and beating up his daughter.

He threatened to register an FIR against him if he complained to anyone, he added.

He said that when he complained to the regional director, police implicated him in a number of cases.

EDO of finance Noor Moham-mad Leghari said that the director had called him to office 16 times and issued threats that he would issue contempt notices and send him to jail.

Mr Mubejo said that EDO of finance was facing an inquiry for embezzling Rs120 million and was leveling allegations against him to protect himself from the inquiry.

At one stage during the proceedings, DCO Mukhtiar Ahmed Soomro and Mubejo exchanged hot words.

The DCO said: “I am in-charge of the district and I can take action against anyone”. The regional director was misusing powers and creating problems for officers, he alleged.

Mr Mubejo said he would call officials after receiving complaints against them in writing. The corrupt officials had united against him, he alleged.

Mr Mubejo has complained to Sindh Ombudsman that all the accused against whom he had received complains were called and they had nothing to do with the inquiry.

He complained about the behaviour of DCO and EDO of finance.

Sources said that the regional director had received 550 complaints against officials over the past six months and given back bribe money recovered from 20 police officials to the complainants who had submitted applications in writing.
